Infrared Heaters, What to buy... Comfort Zone, Sunheat, or Eden Pure? UPDATED

The reason behind more reviewing of the Comfort Zone and  Eden Pure heaters is this. I had 4 of the Eden Pure heaters.

I had to keep resending them back do to them not working I see many folks coming to my site for the Eden Pure reviews.
I say this when the heater worked it worked great, but I was doing a test with them for my own musings. I didn't get the results I was hoping to get because 2 of the 4, seemed to be getting repaired most of the time I wanted to gather info on all 4 in use for a 2-4 mo stretch. Well and that Never happened.
I have also gotten enough junk mail from BioTech to have killed off at least 20 forest's by now.   I'm not saying one company  is better than the other because I have not dealt  with both only one.

But I will say if you do go with the ones I did *** I hope you have Back up heat*** You'll most likely need it!!!
I'd love to hear some of your reviews of  Heaters so please take a moment to share your likes and dislikes of either heater Eden Pure,or Comfort Zone.

OK Here are some new links I found helpful  The older ones I had posted changed hands or something (Thanks to a reader pointing that out to me)

Comfort Zone heaters
Google search for reviews can be found here

As far as the Sunheat heaters go I went to their site they have no page on testamonials So here is a
google search   I did feel free to check it out

As for Edenpure heaters they do as of now have a page with testamonial's that can be found here

I am a dealer/service center for Solar Comfort and have the ComfortZone for comparison. I would not put my company name on the line for any other than Solar Comfort. Why?

First off I don't trust plastic and heaters. In fact, I have an image of one of the infrared heaters melted. I will not disclose the name.

I also do not believe that any of these heaters using digital displays and remotes are going to last longterm. Have you ever had a digital component or remote fail? The simpler the better for longevity.

See I used to work for a chip broker, and what they do is wait for the manufacturer of chips to stop production and then they buy them up. Then they put manufacturers at their mercy. Manufacturers using the former digital components are forced to move onto a new model. Where does this leave you when the warranty is up and the unit changed.

When comparing the ComfortZone Infrared Heater to Solar Comfort it was almost not even a fair comparison. Hands down the Solar Comfort is a much higher quality unit that will certainly be around for you for a long time of heating.

The filter. It was so flimsy on the Comfort Zone. It was so small in comparison as well. I could not believe that when you look through it towards light it was like looking right through it. Not so on the massive Solar Comfort filter.

Then there is the bulbs. Although the main bulb seems to be a slight improvement over ComfortZone's real competitors, Edenpure, SunHeat and SunTwin. I am not convinced that there heat area contains any improvement at all. In fact I would place my bet on the others in this case. Yes there were a few pieces of thin copper but definately not anything to boast about, IN MY OPINION.

Try changing the bulbs that are suppose to be so easy on the ComfortZone. I am very mechanically inclined as I am a service center and I had a hassle of a time. Trying to line the bulbs back in place always left me wondering if it was in right. In fact, how do you even know which is out. No peep holes or any other indicators.

The Solar Comfort is a dream for anyone to work on. I can change lamps in a matter of seriously 2 minutes. 8 screws and as simple as turning lamps.

Oh and don't let ANYONE tell you that Solar Comfort uses old outdated technology. Theirs works and it is proven. They tried the quartz and moved right back.

The only thing I could see being a plus for someone needing to move one by picking it up a lot would be that it is lighter. That is it!

The Solar Comfort is simpler. It is higher quality, blends in like a piece of furniture and is the original.

I did an apples to apples heat test on both the Solar Comfort and the Comfort Zone and the Solar Comfort put out up to 15 degrees more heat and was cool to the touch around the case.

Want to see more information and comparisons go here: http://www.citysurfin.com

    I hope this helps.

Replacing a Solar Comfort light bulb easy? First of all you get the new unit and have to unscrew the interior unit from the cabinet. That is of course, if the cabinet is not already broken upon receipt. Then the screws are so cheap they break off. So you spent 15-20 minutes getting the thing apart to put in the light bulbs. (They are not shipped installed in the unit). Put in the bulbs, find new screws to put the Solar Comfort back together. Then plug in it. Maybe it works - maybe it doesn't. Sometimes the thermostats are screwed down so tightly that you have to take it apart again to loosen the screws (this advice from Sun Cloud tech support). Then if it doesn't work - YOU have to pay to return it. There is simply no comparison between the Solar Comfort/Sun Cloud and the ComfortZone Infrared Therapeutic Heater. The ComfortZone arrives very securely packaging in THICK styrofoam and a HEAVY duty box intended for shipping. You unwrap the unit, plug it in - AND IT WORKS! Replacing the infrared tubes (yes folks, no suntan bulbs in the ComfortZone) takes about 5 minutes even for non mechanically inclined person. Plus, the tubes last 20,000 hrs compared to Sun Cloud/Solar Comfort's 7,000 hours. PLUS the ComfortZone tubes are covered under warranty for THREE YEARS! Even if you do need to replace a tube, they are cheaper than a Solar Comfort.

I have both units and there is no comparison in quality. When you compare the wood cabinet on each brand it is VERY apparent that the ComfortZone unit is QUALITY BUILT. It is not made from cheap plywood. The best comparison, apples to apples, would be to say that when comparing the quality of the cabinets, the Solar Comfort unit looks like an orange crate and the ComfortZone looks like a piece of fine furniture.

I don't believe Solar Comfort can claim their thermostat is accurate to within 1-2 degrees. In real use, my Solar Comfort is generally 5-10 degrees off.

Don't be fooled by reviews from anyone whose income comes from selling Solar Comfort units.

My Comfort zone heater did put off a smell for the first few minutes but went away and have not smelled anything since.

I purchased the comfort zone 1500 about 1 month ago (Jan 20). It was packaged very well. It worked right out of the box and is still working after running 24/7 since I bought it. I researched all of the space heaters out there before I bought this unit. I was skeptical as to the heat output at first. My neighbor had 2 units so I visited him, he is very happy with the results. So I bought the comfort zone unit. I use it in the basement rec room where it is always chilly. It does warm up the room quite nicely. I know the unit uses more electricity than stated and I will get a meter someday to find this out. When they say you need a 15 amp circuit to plug this into, you know it will draw some current. But as far as durability and heat output- so far so good.

Comfort Zone heater SUCKS. I bought one of these heaters and am thoroughly disappointed. It will not turn on until it is really cold, like around 40-45 degrees or so. As a result i ended up using my old heater instead.
When it does turn on (which has been about five times this winter) it won't turn off automatically so the room just got hotter and hotter until i turned it off. I can't program it to turn on/off at certain times because that part doesn't work.
I called customer service (which is lousy-you can't get them half the time after waiting a long time) and they told me to do this and that which i did, but nothing worked. I bought it in the summer when it became available so by the time i tried using it in the winter the money back guarantee was over.
So i'm stuck with a $400 piece of garbage.

I can relate to liking this product. I bought a CZ 1500 Wood Cherry model for $600.00 a month ago for my living room and it does a fantastic job of keeping my entire family warm during family movie night and just during our unwind time in the evening. However, I did need another model for my office and decided to shop around for a refurbished model. It took me awhile but I finally found another Wood Cherry model for the low price of $410.00 by buying direct from the manufacturer, EarthWise, at their site: http://www.czinfraredheaters.com It's turned out to be a great value for a unit that will be apart of my office for years to come.

Duhhhh! Any 1500 watt appliance will use 1500 watts whether coffee pot or heater. Using a 1500 watt heater 24 hours is 36 kw/hrs. Multiply that by 30 days is 1080 kw/hrs. The national 'average' is $0.10 per kw hour charage which would by a max of $108.00. My CZ Infrared heater still saved me $250 to $350 a month on my *overall* fuel bill. And I have never had any problem of any kind what so ever with the unit.

Good Morning, my name is Garrison Roberts. My wife and I just bought our first home 5 months ago…moving’ up and finally realizing the American Dream. So shortly thereafter we found that it could be very costly during the impending winter to pay the higher propane costs that heating a 1800 sq ft home is…we needed a better solution. So we looked around and found some friends using 2 CZ Infrared 1500P heaters to supplement their home heat. It seemed to do an excellent job in the main areas of their home. So I took the leap of faith and invested in 3 units...they do not disappoint whatsoever. We run our thermostat at a constant 55 F and supplement up to 75 degrees F in our living room, one in our kitchen/dining area, and one in our finished basement that is converted into an office/study. The units perform perfectly and we set them to delay start about 45 minutes prior to coming home for an even, comfortable heat. I run our 3 units for about 12 hours per day for the cost of $1.58 per day or less than $50.00 per month in electrical cost per unit. It has saved us hundreds in potential propane costs this heating season already. I am so glad that I took the leap of faith and decided to choose Infrared heat to keep my new home comfy and warm. Thank you, CZ Infrared.

Good Morning, I purchased my CZInfrared 1500WT last winter to keep my townhome warm and toasty because I found that using clean and efficient electricity was a better environmental option versus our propane heat in Medford, Oregon. Being an active participant in the security of this planet’s future, I abhor the use of fossil fuels in any fashion. The burning of fossil fuels creates unnecessary amounts of greenhouse gas in our volatile environment which threaten the stability of our ozone layer causing unnatural climate change and limiting the amount of oxygen that we breathe. Due to my concerns, I needed a better option to heat my home that is powered by solar panel technology that produces the electricity I use. While I do save inherently on my power from our local utility, it still makes sense to find an efficient option to heat my home during the height of winter. My CZInfrared heater allows me to do just that. I kept it on constantly this winter heating my living room, study, and bedroom depending upon where I was. It did a fantastic job of maintaining an even 72 F in all of these areas mentioned while being unassuming and blending into my wood-toned décor seamlessly. In fact, my only regret was that I had only purchased one between all rooms in my home. Next year, before the big winter hits my local area, I plan to buy 2 more CZ1500 models for my study and bedroom to continuously keep all my rooms at a consistent and comfortable temperature.

    Zach,

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience, I wish I could have helped you.

However, answering to comments I would like to point out that:

Comfort Zone is mostly sold in plastic. Although they do have a wooden unit, it is only Plywood (not solid wood as commented) on the top and sides. The front is simulated wood plastic. Plastic is known for emitting toxins when heated as well as potentially melting, which I have personally seen on plastic Infrared heaters.

Yes it is true, we do not ship the bulbs installed like other companies. However, they are so easy to install that a cave man can do it! We have elderly doing it in a snap! About 3-5 minutes.

Here's the deal, all the other units who ship with the bulbs installed give no certain way of knowing that the bulbs have made the trip successfully. This means you could be running your heater with failed bulbs and not even know it. Ours just screw in where others are wired in. Not so easy!

Regarding screws breaking. I have never heard of this. However, I am sure it is possible although they are a quality screw.

Solar Comfort comes well packaged in thick styrofoam molds. Issues with shipments are rare! However, any product can get damaged in shipping.

Regarding Comfort Zones bulbs. They have a 5 year expectancy which is the same as the others. Most people get between 7 to 15 years depending on the heaters use. Don't buy into over exaggerated bulb claims. In fact Edenpure and others say 20,000 hrs but then claim 3-5 years. Comfort Zone bulbs are not cheaper either. They are they same price.

However, if you need a bulb replacement with ALL the other brands including Comfort Zone you have to go through them because they are proprietary. Ours can be found elsewhere because they are used professionally in farming, the food industry, saunas and more! They also have a 3 year warranty.

I do demos daily on Solar Comfort, Edenpure and Comfort Zone (CZ Heater) and the bottom line is that EVERYONE agrees that Solar Comfort is by far simpler, safer and a much, much higher quality. Every professional electrician that we have shown the two side by side prefers Solar Comfort hands down.

Regarding the comment of the Solar Comfort looking like a crate. Look again it is the other way around. Solar Comfort is the most like an end table.

When Zach states that our income comes from Solar Comfort and you can't trust us. Well here is the real deal. I can easily sell Edenpure, Iheater, CZ heater (comfort zone) or any other product. I personally choose not too because I do not agree with plastic heaters, the digitals that will fail just like a vcr or dvd player, Solar Comfort has been proven since 1980's and that it is the simplest. I can not feel confident leaving other brands unattended.

If you go to our website, http://www.solarcomfortheating.com I am confident you will see honest claims, integrity and a truly superior product.

There is another way to tell if the lamps are working after installation. This can be done by removing the filter (so easy) and looking through the fan area and you can see the light of each one. And regarding digital features, I have owned digital appliances for the past 20 years that have NEVER failed. The mechanical hardware has ALWAYS failed before the digital. What a crock.

In addition, the Solar Comfort costs MORE and includes less. No digital, only heats 800 ft., expensive, unnecessary wood case, etc.

Josef are you representing another product line? I ask as it appears you are going on a defense. If you like another product that is understandable.

Here is a reply to a few of the comments that you mentioned:
Solar Comfort has been around since 1980's. It has the longest track record.
After reading Marks post about CZ bankruptcy and seeing all the companies out there that have not been around even a year I would want to put my trust in a product that is proven.

Regarding digital features. Everyone knows they don't last. Consider a VCR or DVD player, stereo, etc. They just do not last long term. For a few years they can be great.
I have a customer who has his original Solar Comfort from 1984. You just will not find that with digital heaters. My local competing dealer has had to replace many motherboards already.

I also know an elderly gentleman who had his plastic heater melt. Luckily he was home. I have also read multiple other peoples experience with the same issue.

Regarding cost more and does less. Well yes it does cost more, but not by much. It also cost more to build. Have you looked at the heat exchanger it has which is the only Infrared heater that has one like a real furnace? It cost more to make! It also cost more to build a Cadillac than a Hyundai.

You will not find raw sheet metal throughout the unit. Solar Comfort coats the entire insides in high heat resistant black for the best heat absorption. It also has a powder coated metal case. No plastic! Plastic is much cheaper. Most others who have wood still use plastic fronts.

In regards to the wood case, 2/3rds of our customers do not buy the wood case but rather the main powder coated unit. This saves them money and heats better.

Only heats up to 800 sq. ft.? That is correct! Unfortunately, just about every other company exaggerates to the poor consumer. They say such things like, 'heat for pennies a day!', 'for the price of a coffee maker', or 'heat 1000-1500 sq. ft.'. We are 1500watts 12 amps and all the others are 1500watts 12 amps. They exaggerate based on a reading they had to of received outside of a cold state. Keep in mind we would rather under promise as everyone's house is different. I am honest and provide realistic expectations.

This is fair warning. I know for a fact that the many new heaters popping up on the market are not there for the consumer long term. They will move on to the next big thing. Solar Comfort has proven itself. This is why we back it. I have a CZ heater, I have an Edenpure and Solar Comfort is the only one I would personally trust in my home unattended.

Please do not continue to go on an unnecessary attack. Feel free to contact me if you would like but really there is no reason for it. I have been fair and honest. I know all of these products as I have tested them and taken them a part.

    Thanks

Well, I do keep the filter clean and it just doesn't heat my kitchen anymore. I will never purchase a heater of this cost again. I sure did not get my money's worth out of this.
